But he will do so after a gruelling two day’s racing at the Breeders’ Cup, which will include his potentially career-defining ride on City Of Troy.
The Derby, Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International-winning superstar is aiming to become the first horse to win the Epsom feature and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Moore and City Of Troy recently delighted Southwell racegoers with a scintillating workout on the all weather.
And the awesome three-year-old colt is firm 9-4 favourite to land America’s most prestigious race too.
Either way, Moore will head to the airport from the track and hop on a 16-hour overnight flight to Melbourne.
With Australia being 18 hours ahead of the US he will lose a day to travel and land Down Under at 9.30am Monday morning.
That should give him enough time to rest and recover from the journey – very likely to be in first class – ahead of one of the world’s biggest races.
A post from Coolmore Australia confirmed: “Ryan Moore will partner with Jan Brueghel in the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup.
“A partnership he couldn’t turn down, Ryan will be traveling from the Breeders’ Cup in America to Australia just moments before taking his ride in the Melbourne Cup.
“Jan Brueghel is set to arrive in Australia this weekend!”
Moore rode Willie Mullins’ 3-1 favourite Vauban in the Melbourne Cup last year but the pair finished mid-pack.
He and master trainer O’Brien will be hoping for much better on three-year-old colt Jan Brueghel.
Improving with every run, he saw off stablemate Illinois to land the final Classic of the season at Doncaster last month.
He’s current 8-1 fav for the Melbourne Cup, behind Mullins paid Vauban (9-1) and Absurde (16-1).
