AIDAN O’BRIEN will be waving goodbye to an ‘unbelievable’ horse – after owners Coolmore decided he was one of several they are sending to the sales.

The Ballydoyle handler had been full of praise for The Euphrates after his run in the Irish St Leger.

O’Brien knew at the time that was a hell of an effort and he was kept on the same mark for the Irish Cesarewitch two weeks later.

The Euphrates won that easily, with O’Brien purring afterwards: “The Euphrates was very well handicapped, he ended up on a good mark. His Leger run was an unbelievable run.

“He’s an improving horse, I’d say he’s a Cup horse. He stays two miles and he has a bit of class, he travelled very strong at all stages.”

But Coolmore – the dominant ownership group in racing headed by John Magnier – reckon now is the time to sell up.

The Euphrates is one of 19 wildcards added to the upcoming Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training sale.

Surprisingly, Coolmore have also included Group 3 winner and recent Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runner Delius.

Trained by French legend Jean-Claude Rouget, Delius was third in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris before coming eighth in the Arc after being sent off 16-1.

Speaking after his Group 3 win in June, Rouget said: “Delius had been working incredibly well before this race and looked awesome the whole week.

“He has improved with every run and I guarantee he still has a lot of room for improvement.

“He is a very, very good one and we are blessed to have him.”

His Majesty, another O’Brien horse, will also be up for sale.

The three-year-old colt is a Listed winner and multiple Group-placed performer, last seen going down narrowly in a Curragh Group 3 over six furlongs.

While O’Brien’s two-year-old colt Monumental, who was second to the hugely promising Bay City Roller in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, will also be up for sale.

The sales will last five days and kick off on Monday.
