FOOTBALL fans claim the “future” of viewing has arrived as Amazon Prime brought in the first-ever substitute counter for Wolves’ live TV clash with Burnley.

Supporters urged Sky Sports to follow suit after Amazon introduced a discreet tracker above the scoreline in the corner of the screen.

The count was on once the Clarets’ injured dangerman Luca Koleosho was replaced by Johann Gudmundsson late in the first half[/caption]

But it came into play much earlier than second-bottom Burnley would have liked in Tuesday’s Premier League game at Molineux.

Vincent Kompany‘s Clarets were on top until dangerous winger Luca Koleosho hobbled off after 36 minutes.

On stepped Johann Gudmundsson for the 19-year-old.

Unlucky Koleosho had netted his first Prem goal just three days earlier in a 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United.

But his misfortune gave viewers the chance to judge Amazon’s groundbreaking service.

The tracker shows five little marks above each team – with the number of dashes reducing by one every time a substitution is made.

And a few fans reckon the counter sets the bench-mark for other broadcasters.

One posted: “New substitute tracking system on Amazon Prime is very useful actually and surprising that it hasn’t been introduced sooner.

“Amazon again showing to be superior to other platforms and surely must be the future of Premier League coverage.”

A second observer wrote: “I like that sub counter Prime Video have… It’s something Sky have to think about implementing too.”

But others suggested the tracker was unnecessary.

One said: “Amazon just introduced a sub counter on Wolves vs Burnley. Can’t say I’ve ever sat here wondering how many subs a team has left.”

And this was a similar view: “I have never ever in my life watching football for over 40 years wondered how many subs are left. ”
