Murray teamed up with brother Jamie in a doubles defeat before a host of tennis stars past and present joined him on court with the returning Sue Barker.

A tribute video featuring Wimbledon heroes Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic was played on the screen before Barker interviewed a tearful Murray in front of the 15,000 fans.

During the speech, Murray paid tribute to his family – singling out wife Kim for her ongoing love and support.

But in doing so, he opened up on details about when they first met, asking for her email address and how he puked right in front of her.

Murray said: “I better say something about my wife because otherwise I’ll get in trouble if I don’t, but this is probably going to be the hard part.

“Me and Kim first met when I was 18 in New York, we went out for dinner at the US Open.

“I choked the first time, we walked her to her hotel and I asked her for her email address. I don’t think that’s a normal thing to do.

“She came along to watch my first match live at US Open, I vomited twice in that match, once right in front of where she was sitting and I then stood up and vomited in my opponent’s racquet bag.

“She still liked me. I knew she was a keeper after that.”

The TV cameras then cut to Kim who appeared somewhat flustered by her husband’s honest and very public revelations.

The couple tied the knot at Dunblane Cathedral in April 2015 and have four children together.

And Murray was quick to add how much he appreciates Kim’s ongoing support at home and on the road – and joked she better get used to having him around far more once he hangs his racquets up following the Paris Olympics, his final event.

Murray had to stop talking to hold back the tears before adding: “She’s been an amazing, amazing support to me, to my whole family, is the best mum.

“Unfortunately, in a couple of months, she’s going to have to see me every day, so things might be rocky for a little while.

“Hopefully we can stick it out together and I’m looking forward to the rest of our lives.”

Murray – who is playing mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu at his final Wimbledon – then hinted at a possible career change.

Quizzed about returning to Wimbledon as a fan in the Royal Box, the former world No1 revealed he would prefer to be in a player box as a coach instead.

Murray revealed: “I’m not never going to come back here.

“Am I a good watcher? It depends who I’m watching. I hate watching my brother play.

“But I love tennis, I watch it all the time.

“I would probably be more comfortable sitting up there watching it in the coaching box rather than somewhere else.”
