Anthony Gordon gets a red card and MOTM at the SAME TIME in never-before-seen moment as fans say ‘this game is nuts’

ANTHONY GORDON was awarded the Player of the Match while being SENT OFF during Newcastle’s win over West Ham.

The Magpies winger was one of the best players on the pitch as Newcastle pulled off a stunning comeback to win 4-3 after trailing 3-1 earlier in the second half.

Gordon had won two penalties for the Toon Army and was deservedly named as the game’s best player on TNT Sports’ coverage of the Premier League‘s early kick off.

But as co-commentator Lucy Ward was announcing to the viewers at home that she had chosen Gordon as the Player of the Match, he was sent off.

The 23-year-old was given his second yellow card of the game after kicking the ball away to waste time during additional time of the second half.

Referee Rob Jones had no time for the dark arts and gave Gordon his marching orders as a result.

Fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing in a moment which will surely never happen again.

Taking to social media, one wrote: “Lucy Ward gives Anthony Gordon Player of the Match and Rob Jones gives him a Red card. This #NEWWHU game is nuts.”

While another added: “Watching with no commentary- did Anthony Gordon just get MOTM and 2 seconds later get a second yellow and sent off? Commentators curse!”

And a third wrote: “Lucy Ward giving Anthony Gordon MOTM as the referee showing him a Red Card was beautiful TV.”

Gordon’s red card will mean he will now serve a one-match suspension ruling him out of a return to Goodison Park to face his former club Everton on Tuesday.

The England international will be pleased with his role over the course of Newcastle’s thrilling 4-3 win regardless of being sent for an early shower.

Eddie Howe’s side seemingly completed the impossible at St James’ Park as goals from Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes snatched three points away from European rivals West Ham.

The win now puts Newcastle just one point behind the Hammers and in a promising position for a late push for the European places.
