Arsenal vs Barcelona preview

Barcelona make the trip to the US after a stopover and 2-0 win in Japan.

Xavi’s men beat Kobe in their first pre-season outing, with their schedule set to ramp up in the next week or two.

They take on an Arsenal side who aren’t quite hitting their peak at the minute.

That’s to be expected in pre-season, of course, but they were a bit disappointing in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United last time out.

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s inclusion at left back instead of Kieran Tierney was met with criticism from some quarters, with Mikel Arteta forced into a switch at half time.

Much is expected of the Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard trio in midfield, which might take quite a bit more time to gel based on last week’s performance.

It looked more like a starting Arsenal team that began the game against United – barring one or two players – and it’s expected that much will stay the same, though with hopes that 90 minutes under their belt will see them kick on.

Arsenal are further into their pre-season preparations than their Spanish opponents.

But they looked like a side that needed a few more games to gel before the Premier League starts in just a couple of weeks time.

Arteta needs to find the right balance, particularly from midweek into attack.
