ALAN SMITH showed he is the consummate professional ahead of Manchester United’s clash with West Ham on Sunday – when he was SOAKED by on-pitch sprinklers.

The former Arsenal forward was pitchside at Old Trafford as he previewed the game for Sky Sports and got absolutely drenched during an already cold day in Manchester.

Remarkably, the pundit did not even flinch, and continued talking about West Ham‘s midfield as if nothing was happening.

It was only his colleague, Ben Ransom, who addressed the situation after, saying: “I’m going to end it there, because this is absolutely brilliant.

“I’ve never seen a more consummate professional than Alan Smith. It’s a two o’clock kick-off here, so we’re going to go and get a towel and dry off.”

Ransom was not finished there, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to laud the professionalism of Smith after their broadcast.

He wrote: “The most professional pundit in modern football. Alan Smith doesn’t even flinch when the Manchester United ground staff give him both barrels from the sprinkler system. Legend.”

After drying off, Smith was on co-commentator duty for United’s victory over West Ham.

The Red Devils swept the Hammers aside with a 3-0 victory.

And it was a day to remember for the club’s young stars – with Alejandro Garnacho scoring a brace and Rasmus Hojlund getting on the scoresheet once again.

Smith is one of the most recognisable voices in football, thanks in no small part due to his former role as a co-commentator on the FIFA video game series.

The Birmingham-born Smith came through the ranks at Leicester where he scored 84 goals in 217 appearances for the Foxes.

He then moved to Arsenal for his most recognisable period of his career where he became a fan-favourite for his goalscoring abilities.

Smith registered 115 in 347 games for Arsenal, won the league twice and registered 13 England caps during his time in North London.
