Betfred pay out early on Man City to win Premier League title after Liverpool and Arsenal stumble

THE 2023-24 Premier League title race is done and dusted.

At least that’s what Betfred think with the bookmaker paying out over £750,000 early on Manchester City to be crowned Premier League champions this season.

With six league games remaining for Pep Guardiola’s side, Betfred boss Fred Done believes that the two-point gap that Manchester City hold is too much for fellow title chasers Liverpool and Arsenal to overcome.

It was a pivotal weekend in the title race with Liverpool stunned at home to Crystal Palace, before Aston Villa secured an unlikely 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City won their clash against Luton Town with a minimum of fuss, and Betfred now expect the Citizens to reach an historic feat of winning four successive Premier League titles.

Fred Done famously made Betfred the first-ever bookmaker to pay out early on a Premier League title winner in March 1998, backing Manchester United to secure their 5th Premier League crown, only for the Red Devils to blow a 12-point lead and allow Arsenal to triumph by a single point.

The bookmaker also paid out on Manchester United to win the Premier League in 2012, before their neighbours Manchester City clawed back an 8-point deficit to win the title on goal difference on the final day of the season.

Regarding his decision, Fred said: “I watched both the Liverpool and Arsenal games yesterday and for me, it’s game over because Manchester City are going to win the Premier League title this year. There’s no danger to that.

“Liverpool look as if they’re beat. They’re gone. For anybody that backed Manchester City before 2pm on Sunday, I’m paying out on City to win the Premier League from now. Go and get your money!”

This is the ninth time that Betfred has decided to pay out early on a potential Premier League title winner.

And with it being such a fiercely contested title race this season, this could be viewed as a hugely risky call, but Fred isn’t worried.

He added: “I like the risk and that’s what we’re about. I’m not worried at all. Come on City, you’ve played well all season and good luck to you.”
