ARSENAL transfer target Borja Mayoral has broken his silence amid the interest from the Gunners.
We revealed this week that the North London club had tabled a £22million bid to Getafe for the striker.
Getafe’s Borja Mayoral has spoken for the first time about Arsenal’s interest in him[/caption]The 26-year-old has been in red-hot form this term with only Real Madrid’s England superstar Jude Bellingham scoring more LaLiga goals than him.
Mayoral has found the net 12 times in the top-flight and has another two goals in the Copa del Rey.
The ex-Real Madrid academy ace has been starring alongside Mason Greenwood for Getafe and has been followed closely by Arsenal since November.
Now that form could earn him a move to the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta looks to sign a new striker this month after appearing to be priced out of a swoop for Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
However, Mayoral has now spoken for the first time since we broke the news of Arsenal’s offer.
And he adamant his “surprise” over the interest from England but insisted he was just focusing on continuing to do the business for his current side.
He told Mediaset: “It’s news that has surprised me too. I haven’t spoken to the club or my agent.
“I’m very focused on Getafe on a day-to-day basis.”

Arsenal are not the only Premier League team keen as Mayoral was also tipped as a target for Brentford last month while Fulham have also been linked.
SunSport understands that the Gunners tabled a bid worth £22m for him in order to beat their rivals to the punch.
But Getafe knocked back their initial offer and are holding out for closer to £39m for their star.
Mayoral has formed a strong partnership with Greenwood, who is on-loan from Manchester United, with the pair combining for three goals already.
The ace completed a permanent move to the Deep Blues in 2022 after an initial loan spell after making only 22 LaLiga appearances for Madrid, which brought three goals.
