Nicknamed Australian Suicide, he was a former AAA World Cruiserweight champion.

He had been living in Mexico since 2013 with his fellow wrestler wife Vanilla Vargas.

Shepherd’s partner, who is the mother of his one young child, is trying to raise money to have his body flown back home to Australia.

She wrote on social media: “With great sorrow, I want to share that my daughter’s father has passed away unexpectedly.

“He was originally from Australia, and our top priority at this time is to fulfil his wish to rest in his country with his family.

“The process is URGENT and we have a 48-hour deadline to collect the necessary funds.

“The total cost of the procedure is $10,000, an amount that is currently impossible for us to cover on our own.

“I ask with my heart in my hand for your support, any donation, no matter how small, will help us get his body back home.

“I deeply appreciate those who can share this post or contribute in any way.

“Your prayers and support mean a lot to our family during this very difficult time.

“Thank you in advance for your solidarity and affection.”

Melbourne City Wrestling led the tributes to Shepherd, saying: “We fondly remember his time in MCW and Australia, where he brought joy to every show with his infectious energy, unforgettable outfits and song choices.

“His willingness to entertain never failed to put a smile on our faces.

“We will cherish the memories and moments he left behind and remember him every time Bad Romance plays. Rest in Peace.”

Fellow wrestler Joe Alonzo added: “Broderick was one of the first friends I made while living in Mexico.

“I was homesick the whole time yet Broderick made me feel right at home and would invite me over to watch funny YouTube videos and train when he wasn’t on the road.

“You were one of the real ones mate, and I’ll never forget you.”
