On his way to the fourth round, Norrie beat Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets before launching an outstanding comeback against Giulio Zeppieri.

After losing the first two sets against the Italian, the 28-year-old went on to win 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-4 6-4.

He then beat world No11 Casper Ruud on Saturday in another impressive display.

But his hopes of reaching the quarter-finals were dashed by world No6 Zverev this morning.

Zverev took the opening set after a strong start before Norrie bounced back to win the second.

The third was briefly interrupted by a pro-Palestine protester, who threw leaflets onto the court.

The match was stopped for a few minutes as a result while the woman was escorted out.

Norrie then took the fourth set, but Zverev won the decider by a tie-break to progress to the quarter-finals.

He will now face either Miomir Kecmanovic or Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth quarter-final on Wednesday.

Looking ahead to the match, Zverev said: “Obviously I am a Kecmanovic number one fan right now.

“Obviously Carlos is from the new generation. He’s extremely young and successful already. He’s also incredibly respectful and the crowd always loves him.

“I know the crowd here doesn’t know him yet but trust me you’ll get to know him over the next 25 years.

“He has time but hopefully it is going to be my day in the quarter-finals.”
