Champions League supercomputer predicts where Man Utd will finish in the group after Galatasaray disaster

A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE supercompuer has predicted where Manchester United will end up in their group after last night’s disaster.

Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana was caught out twice by Chelsea flop Hakim Ziyech in his side’s collapse to leave their hopes of qualification in tatters.

The big moment came when the former Ajax man’s whipped free-kick missed everyone in the box as Galatasaray twice came from two goals down to draw 3-3.

The Moroccan forward appeared to cross the ball, but it went straight to Onana for what looked to be an easy catch, but instead he bundled the ball into his own goal to make it 2-3.

Galatasaray’s first goal had come in similar fashion when Ziyech whipped the ball past Onana from a free-kick as it went around the wall and the keeper.

The Cameroon goalie, who apologised after an error in the first Champions League group stage defeat at Bayern Munich, and his United team-mates are now bottom of Group A.

Following Bayern’s draw with Copenhagen, United will be eliminated if they fail to beat the German champions.

Even if they win, they will also need Galatasaray and Copenhagen to draw when they play in a fortnight.

Now Bettingexpert’s supercomputer, BETSiE, has run its algorithm to predict how the results will pan out after the results from Gameweek 5 – and it makes grim reading for United.

The supercomputer has simulated the Champions League group stage campaign 100,000 times, taking into action all results from the season played so far across all competitions and involved countries.

Now it has predicted the remainder of the campaign based on both pre-season expectations and xG earned both for and against and has given provisional probabilities for the teams for reaching finals and also going on to win the whole tournament.

And after United drew with Galatasaray, BETSiE expects them to finish dead last in the group.

They have been given just a 7.2 per cent chance of qualification – considerably lower than FC Copenhagen (53.84 per cent) and Galatasaray (39.03 per cent).

Meanwhile, Manchester City are the projected favourites to win the Champions League (28.89 per cent) for a second-straight year.

They are followed by Bayern Munich (16.19 per cent) and Real Madrid (12.27 per cent).
