BURNLEY fans claimed they would “be in the Champions League” if it was based on transfer announcements following the bizarre unveiling of their new striker.

The 21-year-old, who spent the first half of the campaign with Union Berlin, was in the stands at Turf Moor to see his new side draw 1-1 with Luton last night.

Burnley have hit the headlines in the past for their whacky and creative transfer unveiling video posts on social media.

They earned a reputation for the bonkers way of confirming new signings by using references to Gavin & Stacey, Generation Game, Toy Story, Scary Movie and Shrek.

And then Swiss international Zeki Amdouni’s move from FC Basel was declared “the weirdest one yet” after they used the Teletubbies to help unveil him last summer.

Now the Ivory Coast international has been unveiled as a Burnley player via a bizarre ET-inspired announcement video that may have topped the lot.

The clip is from the hit 80s movie and shows Fofana shouting “up the Clarets” as his face was put over the top of the alien’s in the film footage.

It then proceeded to continue with the actual movie footage and finished with the iconic bike flying in front of the moon shot before the club badge appeared on the screen.

“Naa this is the best announcement video of the season,” responded one supporter to the clip online.

Another said: “I swear to god if you could get points for transfer unveilings, we’d be in the champions league.”

A third declared that the “admin is on fire”.

While a fourth added: “Maybe THIS is the strangest one yet!”

But after they conceded a controversial late equaliser after a VAR check to draw with relegation rivals Luton in the Premier League, not everybody was seeing the funny side.

“More announcement videos than points this season,” replied one.

Another said: “What a way to perk up from last night’s shambles from VAR! HAHAHA UP THE CLARETS!!”

While one more troll responded: “More over the top signing videos than wins this season.”
