Colwill has endeared himself to the Stamford Bridge faithful with a string of impressive performances for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side this season.

And several Blues fans were quick to call for his permanent appointment as club captain after getting wind of him being given the armband for their clash against the Red Devils.

One tweeted: “Number 26 and a Cobham kid? I have seen it before and we love to see it.”

Another said: “CB from Cobham wearing number 26 and captaining Chelsea.”

And another said: “CAPTAIN LEVI.”

One remarked: “The rise of a Chelsea captain.”

Another chimed in: “26 on the back, CB and captain.”

Fans’ mentioning of the fact Colwill wears the No.26 is in reference to former Blues skipper John Terry, who used to wear the number.

Mauricio Pochettino believes Levi Covill is destined for big things[/caption]

Colwill’s impressive outings in Pochettino’s maiden season as Blues boss have Chelsea have seen him break into the England squad.

And his club manager believes he’s destined for big things

The Argentine said of the defender in July: “Levi has had a few days [in training] and I think he is nearly fit.

‘Of course, why we play with him is because we need to share minutes with different players – and I think he is in a good form.’

“I am happy with him, his performance was good today, better than what I expected because it is only the first game with us after the season with Brighton.

“I am so happy, he can be one of the greatest centre-backs in England.”
