Gallagher breezed past the defender in the Liverpool box and appeared to clash with Van Dijk.

But Tierney waved play on and VAR refused to intervene – leaving Chelsea fans raging.

One said: “That’s a stonewall penalty like how has it not been given?”

Another added: “That was a clear penalty.”

One fumed: “Van Dijk wraps his hand around Conor Gallagher like they are married. How is that not a penalty.”

Another argued: “How is that not a penalty? Gallagher is literally getting a shot on goal otherwise.”

Gallagher had the ball cut back to him before taking a touch and replays revealed Van Dijk’s knee collide into the England star.

And former Chelsea and Liverpool player Joe Cole said: “For me, it’s a penalty.”

Chelsea woes worsened after Diogo Jota put Liverpool ahead on 23 minutes.

Ben Chilwell also saw his appeal for a spot kick denied on 34 minutes and was even booked for diving.

Conor Bradley made it 2-0 before half-time and Darwin Nunez had the chance to make it three from 12 yards.

But his penalty crashed back off the post leaving the Anfield faithful speechless.
