CHRIS KAMARA will return to the TV screen as he continues to successfully battle his speech condition apraxia.
The former Swindon and Brentford midfielder, 66, left his role on Sky Sports in 2022 after being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid.
This impacted his speech, with the ex-footballer heartbreakingly reduced to tears last year as he discussed his condition on Good Morning Britain.
He revealed he had even considered taking his own life, such was the torment of the illness.
But now he is preparing to return to the screen in a travel show with presenter and friend Ben Shepherd.
Shepherd, who hosted Goals on Sunday alongside Kamara, confirmed the show will be “me and Kammy going around the UK in a campervan and exploring the various regions of the UK together”.
Kamara’s voice is improving thanks to treatment in Mexico.
And while he is not yet back to full health, he is on the road to recovery.
As reported by The Mail, Kamara said: “I’ve been there twice now [Mexico]. I’m going back for a third time.
“I’ve got the fluency in my speech. The only thing I haven’t got is the speed of old, I know I talk 300 miles an hour before, but I’d like that back if I can. So I’m going back for more treatment.”
While Shepherd joked: “I used to get annoyed at Kammy, and say ‘If only you would think before you spoke’, and now he’s thinking too long.
“It’s about trying to find a balance.”
Kamara thanked Shepherd for being one of the people to help him overcome the difficult time.
He added: “I’ve come through it with the help of the likes of Ben who have rallied around me.
“Now you think back and why was I thinking those thoughts? Get on and enjoy your life. And thankfully, I’ve been able to do that.”
