And he is desperate to headline UFC 300 in Las Vegas on April 13.
The former Featherweight and Lightweight champion was not pleased when UFC chief White appeared to pour cold water over a return at the historic event.
Yet talks have resumed between the duo as White prepares to declare the fighters for UFC’s 300th event.
And McGregor has now revealed he will personally be making an announcement on his next bout tomorrow.
But fans fear it may be only be an exhibition, just like his 2017 boxing defeat to Floyd Mayweather.
The ‘Notorious’ said on X: “I will be announcing my fight date and opponent on New Year’s Day, 2024.”
One fan said: “With the current state of combat sports it’s probably Francis Ngannou in a tables, ladder and chairs match for the Scooby Doo belt in a ring made of marshmallow, hosted and paid for by Saudi Arabia.”

One noted: “The Mac is back!”
Another added: “Can’t wait to see you back in the octagon.”
Supporters will certainly be hoping it’s a UFC return for McGregor after his fresh round of talks with White.
The UFC leader revealed last week: “We talked tonight. I’m in Abu Dhabi, he’s in Dubai.
“We’re going to figure something out. We’re talking.”
