BRENTFORD have earned a bigger profit in two years in the Prem than Manchester United have in 31 seasons.
The astonishing contrast demonstrates how the Bees have made such a remarkable impact on the top flight since promotion in 2021.
The Glazers have overseen losses of £182.2m in the last two years[/caption] Brentford have made £39m in profit since Premier League promotion[/caption]But they also indicate just how differently Manchester United have been run under the Glazers’ ownership.
Brentford’s latest accounts, for the 2022/23 season saw income rise to a club record £166.5m – up from just £17.7m in the season they were promoted from the Championship and £142.9m in their first top flight term.
The club, owned by gambling millionaire Matthew Benham, made a profit of £10.9m last season, with a wage bill of just £98.8m.
That gives a total pre-tax profit for their two Premier League seasons of £39m.
By contrast, United’s aggregate profit throughout the Prem’s three decades stands at just £39m.
Figures compiled by football finance expert Kieran Maguire show Brentford are now the seventh-highest most profitable club across the Prem’s existence.
Spurs, with total profits of £308m, sit top of that list, ahead of Arsenal (£253m), Burnley (£159m) and Liverpool (£93m).
But while United’s revenues totalled more than £1.2bn in the same two seasons, the Old Trafford club posted losses of £182.2m over that period.

United fans’ grievances against the Glazers included a persistent gripe that they were more concerned with piling debt on the club and earning shareholder dividends than improving the team.
Those issues have grown since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Since then, United have grossed £5.4bn in earnings but announced aggregate losses of £31.4m, including losing money for the past FOUR successive seasons.
