DAMNING stats show why Manchester United SHOULD bring back David de Gea in a shock transfer U-turn.

That’s with Erik ten Hag’s £47million Andre Onana gamble failing to pay off.

The Cameroon star has endured a rocky start to life at Old Trafford.

Onana committed several high-profile blunders as new side United conceded horror goals to the likes of Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Brentford.

And SunSport exclusively told you that United are now considering a move to re-sign De Gea when Onana departs for the African Cup of Nations in January.

Looking at the stats, it’s not hard to see why De Gea is being lined up for a return.

Across his final three seasons at United, the Spaniard conceded a goal almost every 73 minutes.

That’s miles better than Onana’s record, with the stopper leaking a shot every 59 minutes.

De Gea’s save percentage is also better, as are his errors leading to shots and goals.

However, Onana does have some stats going in his favour.

The ex-Ajax ace boasts better successful and accurate passes, as well as long kicks and catches.

Onana proved he can improve a lot with a crucial penalty save in United’s Champions League win over Copenhagen.

But for now, De Gea has the upper hand when it comes to keeping clean sheets.

And should he make the return to Old Trafford, the ace will surely be determined to reclaim his lost spot between the sticks – with his kicking game likely to have improved.

Indeed, stats from Manchester United’s 3-2 loss to Galatasaray earlier this month show shockingly poor distribution from Onana.

Onana’s passing in the Champions League recently was inconsistent to say the least

Just 57 per cent of Onana’s passes against the Turkish outfit found a Man United player with an abysmal 16 wayward balls missing their target.

To add insult to injury he was almost entirely at fault for Galatasaray’s penalty after passing the ball directly into the path of Dries Mertens, who had to be taken down by Casemiro to prevent a certain goal.

United were reduced to ten men as a result too as Casemiro had already been booked earlier in the match and received a second yellow card for the foul.

Luckily for Onana his blushes were spared when Mauro Icardi fired the spot kick wide of the post.

But the Argentine striker dinked the ball over the goalkeeper a matter of minutes later in another shocking moment that didn’t cover Onana in any glory.
