Dana White breaks major protocol for UFC 300 and gives into fighters’ long-running demand for custom fight shorts

THE UFC have broken a long-held protocol for their historic show this weekend.

Mixed martial arts’ premier promotion will host its 300th pay-per-view card in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning.

The historic UFC 300 card will feature a whopping TEN current or former undisputed champions.

And in keeping with the grand nature of the event, UFC president Dana White has signed off on a demand his fighters have been making for the best part of a decade.

For the first time since the now-defunct Reebok deal was introduced in 2015, combatants on the card will be allowed to wear custom-designed shorts.

The fight night shorts for the biggest names on the card were leaked online late on Tuesday night before official snaps were shared on Wednesday.

And to say the designs are amazing would be an understatement.

Main eventer and current light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will wear multi-coloured shorts which feature a pattern in homage to his indigenous Brazilian tribe.

Strawweight queen Zhang Weili – who defends her belt against Yan Xiaonan – will don unique red shorts with three round gold signs adorned across them.

Fan favourite and current BMF title holder Justin Gaethje has also been given his own custom shorts for his defence of the belt.

‘The Highlight’ will don long black shorts with dark stitching of the American flag embroidered into it.

The best of the currently seen shorts, however, undoubtedly belong to Gaethje’s opponent this weekend Max Holloway.

The former interim and undisputed featherweight champion will don floral Hawaiian shorts in his return to lightweight.

Holloway’s incredible shorts include a white base and blue and red flowers.

MMA fans were delighted to see the stars of UFC 300 be given their own unique shorts for the historic event and took to X to voice their happiness.

One wrote: “Hopefully these more custom shorts become the norm at least for all ranked athletes.”

UFC 300 will be headlined by Pereira’s maiden defence of the light-heavyweight title against former champion Jamahal Hill.
