Darts’ golden couple already dreading World Championship clash with star calling it ‘hardest game I’ll ever play’

CAMERON MENZIES admits it would be one of the “hardest games” he could ever play if he drew girlfriend Fallon Sherrock in the Worlds.

The Scottish ace starts his bid for a first major title at the Grand Slam of Darts today in Wolverhampton against Martin Schlinder and then Beau Greaves on Sunday.

Menzies is already dreading the prospect of potentially playing his other half[/caption]

But Menzies, 35, also revealed it would be a nightmare for him to potentially take on ‘Queen of the Palace’ Sherrock at the Ally Pally.

He said: “I’d really rather not face Fallon. It would be one of the hardest games I could ever play in.

“I think it could be good for the fans. I don’t think I’d enjoy playing in it.

“At least one of us would get into the second round, that’s a positive note!”

Menzies has been one of the biggest rising stars on the oche this year and possibly faces a decision on whether to quit his job as a plumber.

He added: “It’s been a very good year, a bit more surprising than I thought.

“This year has been a step up and long may it continue.

“I think I’ve been coming up against top players more and I’ve been a bit more clinical.

“My practice regime has not changed much. But this year I’ve been more consistent and that’s been the biggest improvement.

“I’ve always complained about my B-game but I’ve got a decent B-game now.

“Fallon and I have been together for three years now. As soon as we got together I practiced a lot more. I then got my tour card.

“I’m sure coming up to the Worlds we’ll get more hours in. I’ve got reduced hours now from work so I’ll have more time to practise with Fallon.”

Menzies faces Schindler and Danny Noppert in a tough group and ironically Sherrock’s rival female star Greaves.

He said: “I’ve seen myself how good Beau is. I feel like if I don’t hit a 95 average, Beau can comfortably beat that. The game she can play she can be frightening.

“She is the best women’s player in the world, winning the Matchplay and Lakeside a few times. If I don’t play my A-game she will beat me.

“I think the group is very open and she can win it or so can I, Danny [Noppert] or Martin [Schindler].”

Menzies made his debut in the Slam in 2017, famously bursting into tears on stage with rival Berry van Peer.

He added: “That Grand Slam I qualified from my BDO days. That was my first taste of the big time. It gave me the bug to chase this dream.

“I need to show what I can do on the big stages, I haven’t shown that yet.

“Some of us have got to bide our time. Look at Luke Humphries, he’s been on the big stage for years. Now it’s only just clicked for him and he’s the best in the world.”

Menzies is a vocal fan of Rangers and has already called for boss Philippe Clement to be axed.

He said: “I think it’s going to be a very long slog this season. It was a decent result against Olympiacos.

“The game against Motherwell was a struggle, every match is a struggle at the moment.

“It’s just slow-paced and I feel like the only way we’ll even get second is if Aberdeen fall away rather than us do well.

“It’s just a bad time. The club as a whole just seems to be bad news after bad news. Money getting lost here, there and everywhere.

“There needs to be an overhaul from the top to the bottom.”
