DAMON HETA revealed that rival Simon Whitlock offered to “throw the game” after he desperately needed a toilet break.

Wizard of Oz Whitlock took an unscheduled trip to the loo with their match poised at 9-8 to Heta in the UK Open on Friday night.

It was an unprecedented situation with Whitlock heard to tell referee Huw Ware: “I’m gonna burst. I’ve got to go.”

Fellow Aussie Heta, who lost in the semis to eventual winner Dimitri Van den Bergh, spoke for the first time about the scene which has been dubbed as ‘loo-breakgate’.

He said: “He did say he would throw the game. He said I gotta go. I didn’t know until the end and Huw was like he made the adjudication.

“Sure enough he came back on board and I was fine with it. At the end of the day I got the job done.”

The crowd then hilariously greeted Whitlock when he arrived back at the stage with “Simon Whitlock, he s***s when he wants”.

Heta was clearly not put off by the distraction and the break as he soon dumped out his World Cup team-mate 10-8.

He added: “I didn’t know the rules at the time. There were little rules here and there.

“I took Huw’s word for it. You just roll with it. It’s a tough slog.

“I’ve learnt playing people you know and get along with. I knew I had to play my game.

“There was a bit of cheering within myself. I had to get the job done.

“There was no thinking about who I was playing. That’s why I think I’ve got over the line.

“All that commotion that went on as well. I went for it and things happened for me.

“It’s never happened to me, that’s the first time. Huw said you can keep throwing. I was 9-8 up but those moments, it’s still edgy.

“So if I could just throw those edgy moments out, that’s all in my favour. Him going off probably helped me to be fair.”

The PDC have already decided to not punish Whitlock for his mid-match break.

Chief executive Matt Porter explained: “Before he went on stage, we were aware that Simon was unwell.

“There was definitely no question of gamesmanship.

“He was genuinely ill, and it was an unfortunate call of nature.”
