DARYL Clark can expect some home help after being part of St Helens’ Good Friday win over rivals Wigan.

The hooker heard about nothing else in the run-up to his first experience of playing in the match that coined the term ‘derby.’

Even when he went for a coffee or had a haircut, he could not escape it.

Now he has won one after Saints’ 12-4 victory over the 12-man Super League champions, he may see a favour returned.

“Normally I’m bringing my neighbour’s bins in,” said Clark. “Hopefully he can do mine for a couple of weeks now!

“When I was in Costa and going round town, plus getting my hair cut, all I’d had was, ‘You’d better beat them, you’d better beat them.’

“That was different. I’ve not normally had that through the week building up to a game, having fans in the street saying, ‘You’d better get them beat.’

“And it makes sense to get my hair cut before the derby, doesn’t it?”

Clark, 31, saw Wigan’s Liam Byrne sent off and Tyler Dupree very lucky to only be sin binned after raising his forearm towards Matty Lees.

Late tries from Tommy Makinson and Konrad Hurrell clinched Saints’ win, Wigan’s first league loss since July.

And as first tastes go, it was pretty good.

He added: “It was everything I thought it would be. The atmosphere, with the crowd singing all the songs at the start, was class.

“I’m pretty relaxed. I just soaked it in and enjoyed it, having a little nod to some of the songs going on. I can’t remember what was on in the warm-up but I know I was nodding my head

“And it was a tough game, a couple of cards may have swung it and we spoke in the week about ending that run, them winning would’ve matched our mark.

“It got mentioned to add a bit of spice. We wanted to be the team that stopped that run – and when I go to Costa, I’m normally paying for Matt Whitley’s coffee. Hopefully he can put his hand in his pocket!”
