David Moyes will seek job at Premier League rival if West Ham don’t offer new deal with just months left on contract

DAVID MOYES wants to carry on as a manager —  ideally at West Ham — despite talk of him moving upstairs.

The Scot is at the ‘veteran’ stage at age 60.

His Hammers contract is up at the end of this season but he has no plans to change job.

Sources close to Moyes scoffed at suggestions he could become a director of football as he is still so committed to the demands of being a coach.

The Irons are yet to formally start discussions about an extension to his stay, though insiders think they will get round to that soon.

But if Moyes — who began his second spell with the club at the end of 2019 —  is NOT given more time in the Hammers dugout,  he will look for another post in the Premier League.

His preference is to stay at the London Stadium, where he is settled. His new signings are bedding in and can improve in time.

Hammers supremo David Sullivan is still in his camp and most of the major players at the club realise the experienced chief is still the safest bet for them in the future.

Moyes is not stressing about the delay in sorting out a new deal.

But also knows he will be a wanted man if he enters the managerial market next summer.

The ex-Everton boss led his side to European glory last term.

West Ham’s dramatic Europa Conference League win over Fiorentina was his first major trophy win since leading Preston North End to the Second Division title in 2000.

Speaking to Sky Sports before Sunday’s match against Nottingham Forest, Moyes said: “I’m not in a hurry to stop managing, that’s for sure. I can grow teams and clubs. I genuinely think there are loads of similarities at West Ham [to Everton]. Things we can do better, what we’re trying to do.

“The fire always burns, even when I’ve been losing because I want to get back and get the result. The defeats are always hard to take and it doesn’t get any easier the older you get.”
