Dillian Whyte ‘frontrunner’ to fight Hughie Fury in stadium in Ireland with talks ongoing

DILLIAN WHYTE has emerged as a “frontrunner” to fight Hughie Fury in an Irish stadium.

Fury returned with three victories in 2024 after three years out the ring amid health issues.

He returns tonight at York Hall against 9-4 Dan Garber – but a huge bout against Whyte in Ireland has been teased for next summer.

Fury’s promoter Izzy Asif said: “GBM Sports will be staging an event at Pearse Stadium, Galway in July and Hughie Fury will be on the card.

“We have several names in contention as an opponent, all of whom are well known.

“Dillian Whyte is a frontrunner for that slot as we believe that is a fight which would deliver massively for fans in attendance and watching around the world.

“We look forward to confirming further details of our Galway event in due course.”

Whyte, 36, had two comeback victories last year, beating Christian Hammer and Ebenezer Tetteh in Ireland and Gibraltar.

But he was pulled out of a 2023 rematch against Anthony Joshua, 35, after returning an “an adverse finding”.

Whyte later resumed his career away from Britain after the Texas Department of Licencing and Regulation put the failed test down to a “contaminated supplement”.

He was due to face Joe Joyce, 39, in Manchester this weekend until a sliced finger forced him to pull out.

And Fury is ready to capitalise, telling talkSPORT: “That would be a big fight there.

“These are the fights we want. I’ve been in the pro game a long time now and this is my time.”
