The Everton ace has experienced injury issues of his own but he would be a like-for-like replacement for Abraham.

According to Corriere dello Sport Roma want to sign Calvert-Lewin on loan with a view to making the move permanent.

It is believed Calvert-Lewin would be open to the switch following the success of other former Premier League stars at Roma, including Abraham and Chris Smalling.

Arsenal were reported to be interested in Calvert-Lewin earlier this year.

Arteta is understood to be an admirer of the striker and he is keen for the club to launch a bid when the summer transfer window opens.

That is despite Calvert-Lewin’s injury history, with the Everton star making just 17 appearances last season.

He was absent for the start of the last Prem campaign due to a knee injury and he has missed the club’s last seven games while recovering from a hamstring issue.

Alternatively, Arteta could hand more playing time to Hale End academy graduate Folarin Balogun.

The striker performed well on loan at Stade Reims last season and could be ready to make the step up.

Meanwhile one of Calvert-Lewin’s close friends Tom Davies has been training with Bristol Rovers following his release from Everton.
