DORTMUND star Julian Brandt was struck with an illness so bad it left him feeling ‘dead’.

Brant, 27, is still not back to full match fitness after being wiped out by a marathon eight-day fever that knocked a stone off him.

Dortmund are currently sitting fourth in the Bundesliga and will be feeling the absence of the vital midfielder who has scored six goals and registered eight assists this season.

Due to what he later called ‘the plague’, Brandt missed BVB’s 3-1 victory over Bochum at the end of January and their 0-0 draw with Heidenheim a few days later.

He was not even back to playing the full 90 minutes when Dortmund beat Freiburg 3-0 on February 9, causing fans to wonder what was the matter with him.

He has since explained the shocking reason why his recovery is taking so long.

He said: “I had a fever for eight days.

“This takes a while.

“Then you get impatient, stare at the wall, don’t eat anything.”

He went on and said: “I was dead.

Exactly what illness the BVB midfielder suffered from is not entirely entirely clear.

The good news is, as of Tuesday, he is now back to training with the team and is working towards full fitness again.

Over the years the attacking midfielder has allegedly caught the eye of a few Premier League managers including Jurgen Klopp and earlier this season Mikel Arteta.
