THIS is the embarrassing moment a runner celebrated winning a marathon before crossing the line – only to be overtaken.

The dramatic incident took place at the Chongqing Half in China on Sunday.

Footage shows a women named Xiao Fen running towards the finishing line.

As she takes her final few strides, she lifts her arms into the air in celebration and slightly slows down.

Xiao was clearly unaware that Gan Zhifang was breathing down her neck and was not settling for second place.

She incredibly stole victory right on the line and let out a joyful roar.

The sensational clip has gone viral on social media, being watched an incredible thousands of times.

Speaking to local press after the disappointment, Xiao admitted to letting her guard down before crossing the line and said she “opened the champagne” too early.

But she remained happy with her second place finish as it was her personal best.

Over 15,000 runners took part in the Chongqing Half on Sunday and 8,000 in the amateur competitive race.
