ENGLAND’s cricketers were given an unwanted wake-up call last week when the FIRE ALARM went off in their hotel.

Brendan McCullum’s troops were enjoying breakfast ahead of the fourth Ashes test last Wednesday when the team hotel’s fire alarm went off at 8:10am.

Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali were all enjoying a spot of breakfast when the siren started blaring through the hotel.

The siren woke several of the trio’s team-mates, who looked bleary-eyed after having their lie-ins cut short.

They quickly evacuated the venue, although Bairstow is said to have taken his sweet time as he took a few extra bites of his brekkie.

Stokes, meanwhile, was reportedly spotted leaving the hotel with his expensive set of golf clubs.

The fire, according to reports, is said to have been accidentally started by a guest.

The guest is said to have set off the smoke alarm while ironing in their room.

Australia retained The Ashes last week by drawing the fourth test, which meant England trailed the series 2-1 with one more match to play.

That means Brit icon Stuart Broad will end his career without one last raising of the urn.

The 37-year-old announced his plans to retire last week and said: “It’s been a wonderful ride and a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have.

“I’m loving cricket as much as I ever have, it’s been such a wonderful series to be a part of and I’ve always wanted to finish at the top.

“I feel really content with everything I have achieved in the game and ultimately the decision came down to.

“I knew I wanted to leave the game loving cricket and my last memories being a really enjoyable changing room.

“I have so many friends and figures in management that I’ve been around for so long. I look around and I have played so much cricket with all of them.

“It feels like my changing room and I wanted to sort of walk away playing with a group of players I love to bits.”
