On Sept. 24, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the eight-time Grammy winner as the official 2024 Super Bowl halftime show headliner. The big news was revealed in a series of videos where Usher gets a call from Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, Marshawn Lynch, and Odell Beckham Jr. using footage from his "Confessions Part II" music video. In a press release, Usher said of his upcoming gig, "It's an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can't wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they've seen from me before." Seth Dudowsky, NFL head of music, praised the music legend in a statement, saying, "Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career, we couldn't be more excited to have him headline this year's Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. We look forward to working with Usher, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to bring fans another Halftime Show for the history books." Usher — one of the most influential artists of our generation, who's sold over 80 million records worldwide — joins a long line of incredible acts who have graced the Super Bowl halftime show stage, including Janet Jackson, Prince, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Madonna, and, most recently, Rihanna. The "Boyfriend" singer reflected on the esteemed accomplishment in an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, sharing that only a "close-knit group of people" knew about the news before the world found out. "We're really excited about the entire thing. Obviously, a legacy, but more than anything, the fact that this is the grandest stage to play on," said the dad of four. Usher's Super Bowl halftime show is set to take place after his final Las Vegas residency shows, which kicked off in October. The King of Las Vegas will hit the stage at the city's Allegiant Stadium midway through the big game, which will air live on CBS. Usher's Super Bowl Halftime Show Set List Usher teased what songs he may perform during his halftime show in a November interview with ExtraTV, saying, "You're going to get hit records. . ." He added, "I do want to play the songs that people obviously recognize and the ones that I celebrate, I've been able to laugh, I have been able to cry, I have been vulnerable, I've been telling and honest . . . I found really great ways to help us communicate better through my music and that celebration is inside this curation." It seems impossible to ask an artist like Usher to fit the best of his discography into a 13-minute set, especially when he has eight albums and counting to choose from. That hasn't stopped fans from theorizing about his Super Bowl set list, though. Hits like "OMG," "Yeah!," "Superstar," "U Don't Have to Call," "Good Kisser," and "Love in This Club" have all been tossed around so far. Even Keke Palmer — who collaborated with Usher for his "Boyfriend" music videotold POPSUGAR she hopes to hear "Nice & Slow." But we'll have to wait until Super Bowl Sunday to find out which ones make the cut. Usher's Super Bowl Halftime Show Guest Performers Any potential guests joining Usher on stage will likely be kept under wraps until the big performance. The singer teased to Lowe that he has "collaborated with a lot of incredible artists throughout the years" — from Beyoncé and Diddy to Justin Bieber and more — so the possibilities are endless. He told ExtraTV, "I've also collaborated with a lot of people in the process, so. . . there's a celebration there." Ultimately, Usher told Lowe that he'd like to "socially engage the world" — could that be a hint that he'll bring out a global act like Mr. Worldwide, aka Pitbull, to perform their 2010 song "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love"? We'll just have to wait and see.
