FORMER England goalkeeper John Ruddy could allegedly be set for a Premier League return at the age of 36.

The Birmingham City stopper was in action as the Blues opened their Championship campaign with a 1-1 draw at Swansea.

He recently penned a new one-year deal at St. Andrew’s, tying him to the club until next summer.

However, Ruddy could potentially soon find himself back in the top-flight.

That is according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, who claims that Luton Town are trying to sign him.

He tweeted that the Hatters “have approached Birmingham” over a deal for the veteran as they look to “finalise their goalkeeper plans” ahead of their season opener at Brighton this weekend.

Ruddy began his career in the lower leagues with Cambridge before Everton snapped him up way back in 2005.

He failed to establish himself at Goodison and, after ten stints out on loan, he eventually moved to Championship side Norwich in 2010.

Ruddy stayed at Carrow Road for seven years, winning promotion twice, and played over 250 games for the Canaries.

It was during that period that he received his first England call-up, and he won his only cap in a friendly against Italy in 2012 as the Three Lions recorded a 2-1 win.

Ruddy left Norwich to join Wolves on a free transfer in 2017 and he made over 50 appearances for them throughout his five-year stint at Molineux.

He then departed Molineux 12 months ago once his contract had expired but stayed in the Midlands with Birmingham.

Despite arriving initially as back-up, Ruddy went on to establish himself as No.1 and made 43 appearances last season.

Now he could be on the verge of one last foray in the big time if Luton push ahead and snap him up.
