AN ex-Manchester United star has demanded the club bring back Mason Greenwood after his performances at Getafe.
The striker is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025 but is currently on loan to the Spanish club following his arrest in January last year.
Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe[/caption]Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive control – something he denied.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) later dropped all of the charges and Utd attempted to reintegrate the 22-year-old.
But backlash from fans and female players saw bosses make a quick U-turn.
Greenwood joined the Spanish side in August on a season-long loan – scoring five times and having four assists in 15 pitch appearances.
His impressive performance, despite being out of the game for 18 months, has since caught the attention of former Utd player Ravel Morrison.
Greenwood helped Getafe claw back a 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, leading Morrison to post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “What a player. United need to bring him back!!”
It comes after reports claimed Barcelona were interested in signing the baller.
The club sent scouts to watch Greenwood, according to talkSPORT, while Atletico Madrid were also rumoured to be monitoring the striker after he helped boost his team to ninth place in LaLiga at the start of December.
In addition, The Sun understands Valencia and Real Sociedad are both “monitoring” Greenwood, and could make a move in the summer.
Our source said: “Mason has done brilliantly since he moved to Spain and is really catching the eye after a strong start to his time at Getafe.
“There are a number of clubs looking at him in Spain with scouts from Valencia and Sociedad seemingly at the front of the queue.
“It is highly unlikely Mason will return to Manchester United.
“That ship has sailed, and he looks set to enjoy the next phase of his career in Spain where he has really settled and found his feet both personally and professionally.”
With his current record on the field, Getafe are considering making Greenwood a permanent team player when this season finishes.
Getafe president, Angel Corres, spoke to Cadena SER on Tuesday and revealed: “With Greenwood, we are not only planning on him staying another year, but we also want to buy him.”
The football boss admitted it is “still too early” to make any final decisions.
“I believe a lot [in Greenwood]. From here, we continue to work periodically, we continue to meet with Manchester [United] to see if they are happy,” he added.
Greenwood last played for Man Utd in their 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22, 2022.
