TAHITH CHONG collapsed on the pitch during Luton’s Championship clash against Plymouth in worrying scenes.
On the stroke of half-time the former Manchester United star crumpled to the floor on the edge of the penalty area.
Fortunately the ex-Man Utd star was up on his feet and conversing with people[/caption]Medical staff from both teams rushed to his aid and a stretcher was taken on to the pitch.
Fortunately, Chong was quickly back on his feet.
After receiving attention, the 24-year-old was able to walk off the pitch.
He was said to have been seen with a large lump on the left side of his forehead after a collision with a Plymouth player.
Luton later confirmed Chong was able to walk to the dressing room after a period on the floor.
Boss Rob Edwards gave a health update, saying: “He’s up and about and fine.
“So we’ll see the extent of it concussion wise. He was a bit sore but he’s fine.”
Taking to social media, Plymouth added: “Great to see Tahith Chong walking off following treatment, after he went down towards the end of the first half.”
Chong was replaced by Jacob Brown at half-time.
Following the game, Luton boss Rob Edwards provided an update on Chong’s condition.
He said: “He’s up and about… We’ll have to wait and see about concussion.”
Before Friday night’s game at Home Park, Chong had played in all six of the Hatters games since their return to the Championship.
He had scored one goal for Edwards side.
The Dutchman signed for the Hatters in 2023 from Birmingham after they earned promotion to the Premier League, having left Man Utd in 2022 to join the Blues.
Wayne Rooney‘s Plymouth had taken the lead through Rami Al Hajj after just eight minutes of play.
They added a second through a superb strike from substitute Ibrahim Cissoko.
Luton pulled one back seconds later with Victor Moses – scoring his first goal in English football since 2018 with Chelsea.
Cissoko sealed the deal for the Pilgrims with a clever reverse shot into the bottom left corner following a mesmerising piece of skill in injury time.
The result leaves Plymouth in 14th and four points clear of the relegation zone with two wins in three before the rest of the division take to the field over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Luton are just three points above the drop sitting in 16th.
