But, despite the victory putting them within two points of leaders Liverpool, they were upstaged by a mouse.

The rodent was an unlikely pitch invader in the Cityzen’s match against Sheffield United.

And it caused much hilarity when a video clip of the moment was released online.

One fan joked: “Can it play right back?

A second posted: “The Etihad literally as quiet as a mouse.”

A third quipped: “The mouse at Etihad left home & told his family to watch TV, he will make an appearance dribbling the camera man.”

While a fourth added: “It was the night before NYE, at the Etihad house, not a creature was chanting, not even that mouse!”

Man City marched up to third in the Premier League with a comprehensive 2-0 win.
