The midfielder was in action for his club on New Year’s Day as they beat rivals Braintree Town 3-0 at home.

Chelmsford were already 2-0 up when Carruthers fired home a 56th minute penalty.

And his side posted the news on their official X account, adding a short clip showing Carruthers performing a goal celebration.

In it, the ace can be seen grabbing his stomach before squeezing it repeatedly.

The bizarre display appeared to make it seem as if his belly button was talking.

And fans could not believe what they were seeing on social media.

One said: “What is this?”

Another declared: “I don’t know where you’d fit this discussion in but I think it needs to be had.”

One noted: “This is unreal.”

Another added: “What the hell?”

Carruthers came through the ranks at Arsenal and Villa before making his pro bow in the Premier League in the 2011/12 season.

But Carruthers featured just three times in the top flight before dropping down to League One with MK Dons in 2013.

After several campaigns there, including one in the Championship, he joined Sheffield United in 2017.

He then played for Oxford AND rivals Cambridge before moving into the National League South with Hemel Hempstead Town.

Carruthers then spent time at Dartford before joining Chelmsford last summer.

He has since played 17 times, and his goal yesterday was the first for his new side.
