Defender Gabriel Magalhaes headed Arsenal in to the lead inside four minutes.

Liverpool then had penalty appeals waved away after Martin Odegaard appeared to handle the ball in the box.

Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s deflected free-kick spun towards the midfielder and then hit his arm.

Gary Neville called the Arsenal captain luckily and claimed that his slip might be what saved him.

Fans online however were left bemused as to why the decision did not go in Liverpool’s favour after a lengthy VAR check.

One posted: “Odegaard went full LeBron. How is this not a penalty?”

A second wrote: “Odegaard playing basketball in the box against Liverpool. Is there anything he cannot do?”

A third commented: “How is this not even a penalty?”

Liverpool did get themselves level without the need of the penalty.

Mohamed Salah scored a brilliant goal in the 29th minute as he hammed the ball past David Raya.
