David McGoldrick, 35, enjoyed two seasons in the top flight with Sheffield United after cutting his teeth as a Championship striker.

But after netting 25 times for League One outfit Derby last term, McGoldrick now finds himself back at boyhood club Notts County in League Two.

The former Republic of Ireland international played just four times for the historic side before joining Southampton in 2004.

He initially returned for an unsuccessful loan spell for the 2005/06 season, failing to score in seven outings.

But the veteran is now looking to make up for lost time after signing up for another stint.

McGoldrick certainly didn’t keep fans waiting for a glimpse of magic, scoring an absolute beauty in yesterday’s 5-0 win against Alfreton Town.

The hitman picked up the ball around 30 yards from goal.

And he showed great instinct by holding off a crunching lunge from an opponent.

McGoldrick then lined his body up as the ball rolled to the side.

And the ace unleashed an absolute howitzer of a shot, pinging the ball perfectly into the roof of the net.

McGoldrick’s stunning shot sent Notts fans wild, with many not expecting to see the veteran make an impact so soon.

Supporters took to social media to hail their new signing, with one saying: “Cheat code, absolute baller our Didz.”

Another declared: “Pure filth.”

One noted: “Bet he gets 20+ this season, what a player.”

Another added: “Until he plays for you club you’ll always underrate him, technically brilliant.”

McGoldrick’s career has taken him to several of the country’s iconic clubs, including Notts’ rivals Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

In total, he’s hit 149 goals in 560 games for 10 different clubs.

But many won’t bet against McGoldrick improving that tally at Meadow Lane.
