Fans in stitches at Chelsea’s crowded weights room in training video and say it ‘looks like going to gym on January 1’

RIPPED but still ribbed – Chelsea’s strapping stars were trolled by amused fans as the club posted a “chaotic” video of a crowded gym session.

New Stamford Bridge chief Enzo Maresca has 40-plus senior players after a dozen summer signings.

And supporters were surprised the club itself shared the clip of a hectic range of routines on a variety of fitness equipment.

It looked so busy that one fan joked: “Training at Chelsea is like going into the gym on January 1st.”

That’s the month when many “normal people” activate their New Year’s resolution of getting fitter – by joining a sports centre.

But with arms and legs lurching everywhere in the Chelsea video, one supporter claimed: “Looks like squid games season 2.”

Another observer posted: “I can’t believe the official account posted it lmao they gotta know.”

The Blues must be keen to cram in as much preparation as possible for their Premier League opener this Saturday – at home to champions Manchester City.

But fans were bemused by the clip, with one saying: “It’s worrisome, I don’t know what their end game is.”

One routine, where players swayed as they worked on their upper bodies with resistance bands, also sparked merriment from viewers.

Changes to the Premier League for 2024/25

NOTHING stays the same forever.

And that includes the Premier League, which is making a number of tweaks this season.

Team news will now be released 75 MINUTES before kick-off, 15 minutes earlier than had been the case before.

Things could get crowded on the touchline, with the number of substitutes permitted to warm-up boosted from three players per team to FIVE.

There’s also a change to how added time is calculated when a team scores a goal, an update to the ‘multiball’ system and the introduction of semi-automated offsides – but not straight away.

A fan responded: “Half of them looked like they were practicing their golfing swing at the start, for when they don’t get picked.”

In fact, with so many players available to Maresca, around 20 might be judged below par for even one of the nine spots on the subs’ bench.

Jocular jibes poured in as supporters surveyed the gym images.

One fan said: “That’s just 1/5 of the squad, some in the pool, some outside, some having breakfast.”

“Lolllllll” and “Hahahaha” commented others – as they took in the energetic array of aces.

And even if it’s not January 1, Saturday is the first day of reckoning for Maresca.

Happy New Era!
