Nunes went down and was clearly in extreme pain as he yelped out.
And images showed just how bad it was with his middle finger on his left hand bent 90 degrees backwards at the knuckle.
TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher said: “His finger was bent grotesquely.”
Manchester City’s medical staff ran on to treat the £53million summer signing from Wolves, who also got injured earlier in the season following a spectacular overhead kick attempt.
They immediately got to work on the digit and strapped it up.
However, Nunes was unable to continue and was subbed off for youngster Micah Hamilton.
But squeamish fans flooded social media with messages after witnessing the nasty injury – including plenty wishing him a speedy recovery.

One said: “Thought Nunes was just being a bit soft at the time. Just saw his finger,” followed by a sick emoji.
Another wrote: “Awful and painful sight.”
A third added: “Looks horrendous.”
A fourth typed: “This must be so painful. Get well soon Nunes.”
And a final user replied: “I don’t want to see Nunes’ finger anymore thank you!!”
City breezed through 6-2 on aggregate as they look to defend their status as Kings of Europe.
Manuel Akanji blasted home emphatically before an absolutely stinking blunder from Copenhagen’s masked goalkeeper Kamil Grabara on nine minutes.
Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back for the Danish side but Erling Haaland grabbed his 41st Champions League goal to seal the win.
