This season’s Premier League Darts campaign began off the back of Luke Littler‘s sensational run to the PDC Darts World Championship final at Alexandra Palace.

The teenager’s performances saw him earn a place in Premier League Darts, although he is yet to triumph in the first three weeks of the season.

Littler, 17, was beaten in the semi-finals by Michael Smith in Cardiff on week one, while Van Gerwen edged past him 6-5 in last week’s Berlin final.

This time around in Glasgow Littler lost to Gerwyn Price 6-5 in the quarter-finals, while Van Gerwen went all the way by beating Peter Wright, Rob Cross and Luke Humphries.

Following his triumph over Humphries, fans claimed that he means business this season.

One wrote on social media: “He’s taken all this attention on Luke Littler personally and will absolutely annihilate the majors this year.”

While a second gushed: “Your B game is better than most people’s A Michael.”

A third commented: “You can definitely do better. But you stood up to the challenge today and that’s a great feat!”

And another added: “All about timing! Great win tonight.”

Following his victory, Van Gerwen told Sky Sports: “I won tonight and I didn’t even play well, that’s a good thing.

“Last year I said to myself I want to win so many weeks, I want a certain number of points.

“This year I do it different, I play week by week, no targets now. There’s been a lot of pressure on my shoulders.”

Premier League Darts will resume in Newcastle next Thursday.

Van Gerwen is set to take on Price in the quarter-finals, while Littler will meet Wright.

On the other side of the draw Smith will meet Nathan Aspinall.

While Cross will do battle with Humphries.
