CHELSEA have agreed a deal to sign Portuguese star Renato Veiga from Basel for £12million, according to reports.
And the prospect of his arrival has sent fans of the Blues into a frenzy of excitement.
The versatile 20-year-old can play as a left-back, centre-back and central midfielder.
After just one season with the Swiss club he is set to depart for Stamford Bridge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there will be “no sell-on clause or add-ons” involved in the deal.
Veiga is expected to undergo a medical and “sign in the next hours”.
The 6ft 3in youngster came through at Sporting Lisbon before he went out on loan to Bundesliga side Augsburg in 2023.
He played 13 games for the German side and then signed for Basel at the beginning of last season.
Just six first-team appearances and one goal came in his first campaign in Switzerland, but that appears to have attracted interest from Chelsea.
Along with his blossoming club career, he has earned five caps for Portugal‘s U21s having made his debut last year.
