A BLUSHING fellow at Flushing Meadows has become the unwitting star of a riveting romantic mystery.
TV viewers wondered if a saga in the seats at the US Open was the “exact moment” a spectator’s “heart breaks in two” – courtesy of “next-level friend zoning”.
Armchair observers were transfixed as a man in glasses prepared to hand over one of two cocktails he was holding to a smiling woman next to him.
She reached out her arm and… took a drink from ANOTHER man.
That left the bespectacled male looking perplexed – as well as possibly possessing a spare drink.
In the words of one viewer: “If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two.”
Another captivated onlooker said: “This is cinema.”
So what precisely did happen to the double cocktail carrier at the final tennis Grand Slam of the year?
Did he make a misjudgement and deliver a poor first serve?
Or did he simply just receive the worst swerve?

But there’s a third option some fans were drawn to after studying the brief encounter with a keener gaze than even hawk-eye could produce.
These viewers reckon it was all an innocent misunderstanding – made mischievous by a misleading clip.
They claim the man was always intending to deliver the cocktail to ANOTHER woman.
Such verdicts included: “If you watch closely there’s another lady in the foreground on the right waiting for that second drink”
Whatever the case, the drink drama got the “deuces” flowing for observers watching a more routine contest out in the middle below.
Frances Tiafoe eventually overcame fellow American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4 6-3 4-6 7-5 to reach round two.
But many viewers were more interested in whether the man with the cocktail surplus was also getting a sinking feeling…
