Among those he passed on his way to the front of the pack was another Jamaican star, Oblique Seville.
Lyle, 27, and Seville had some prior beef coming into the 100m final.
Seville beat Lyles at the Racers Grand Prix at the beginning of June and he glanced over at the American as he crossed the line.
Following the race Lyles took to social media where he called out Seville, saying: “Oh yah…I’ll remember this! See you in Paris.”
Lyles clearly hadn’t forgotten about it by the time he arrived in Paris, as he was spotted glaring at Seville as the pair crossed the line in their semi-final, despite the American coming out second best in that race.
But he made amends in emphatic fashion later on as he showed why he is world and now Olympic 100m champion, with Seville finishing in last place.
Lyles, who finished in a time of 9.79seconds, has attracted plenty of praise for his performance as well as a few new fans, some of whom lauded the sprinter on social media.
