A “Robin Hood” is when a player throws their dart and it land in the back of a dart they have already hit on to the board.

The unlikely shot gets its nickname from the story of Robin Hood beating the Sheriff of Nottingham in an archery contest by splitting his arrow down the middle to hit the bullseye.

But unlike the folktale of old it doesn’t help a darts player when they see their shot land in the back of one of their other darts.

Instead they lose their shot and don’t receive any points for the dart which has not pierced the board.

That is because to score points a player’s dart must both come into contact with the board and remain inside of it.

Despite Dolan’s “Robin Hood” not aiding him it still sparked quite the reaction at the Ally Pally with fans excited to see the rare occurrence.

While those watching on the TV screens at home took to social media to react to the extraordinary shot as well.

One wrote: “Brendan with the “Robin Hood” haven’t seen one of those in a while!”
