Phillips appeared off the bench for the Hammers in their defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

The on-loan midfielder was introduced by David Moyes in the 69th minute, with West Ham leading 3-1 at St James’ Park.

As the change was made, X user Charlie Fry wrote: “Oh no Phillips is coming on. 4-3 Newcastle incoming.”

Phillips went on to endure a difficult cameo as Newcastle turned the match on its head claim a 4-3 victory and fulfil the prediction.

The 28-year-old’s disastrous display saw him give away a controversial penalty just minutes after coming on.

His foul on Anthony Gordon was penalised by VAR and punished by Alexander Isak from 12 yards.

That goal kickstarted the Magpies’ turnaround as Harvey Barnes’ brace sealed a 4-3 triumph.

Fans were quick to react to the stunning prediction, with one commenting: “Are you from the future?”

Another added: “Bro knew.”

A third supporter also wrote: “What was he cooking…”

Phillips’ day got even worse after the match as he was heckled whilst getting onto the team bus.

His reaction to the taunts of his own fans was caught on camera, with Phillips responding by making a gesture towards those confronting him.

The former Leeds man has struggled since joining West Ham on loan from Manchester City in January.

He has made just one start since his debut across nine appearances for the club, which ended with him being subbed off at half-time against Burnley earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Phillips’ poor form also saw him dropped from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.

His long-term future at the Etihad Stadium continues to appear uncertain with four years remaining on his contract.

Leeds could offer him an escape route, though, after being linked with a £30million summer move if they can seal promotion back to the Premier League.

Phillips left his boyhood club to join City for £42million in 2022.
