Cisse, 38, is a free agent after leaving Amiens SC in the summer after spending a season at the Ligue 2 side.

The ex-Senegal International is now believed to be living near Macclesfield and training with the seventh-division team as he considers his next move.

The phoenix club of the former Macclesfield Town was bought by ex-Wales star Robbie Savage and Robert Smethurst in 2020.

They have since secured back-to-back promotions after starting in the North West Counties Premier Division.

If the club can get Cisse on board, it would show their influence in non-league football.

The 36-cap Senegal star spent five seasons at Newcastle and scored 44 goals in 131 appearances.

After leaving St James’ Park in 2016 he joined the Chinese Super League side Shandong Lueng, followed by short spells for three Turkish Super Lig clubs before going back to France.

Meanwhile, currently in the Northern Premier League Macclesfield has a coaching team with EFL experience.

One of the goals came from former England captain Wayne Rooney‘s younger brother John, 32.

John returned to his boyhood club during the summer after his contract at Oldham Athletic was torn up.
