Forgotten Premier League star once sacked by Gary Neville gets new job

GRAHAM ALEXANDER hasn’t had to wait long for a new opportunity.

Just three weeks after being sacked by League Two side MK Dons, the former Premier League star has been unveiled as the new boss of Bradford City.

The Bantams announced the news on Monday, with the 52-year-old signing a deal through the end of the 2025 season.

Chris Lucketti will also be joining Alexander as his assistant.

“It is really good to be here. I am very excited about the role, the potential of the team and the club,” Alexander told the team’s website.

“Me and Chris have been here quite a few times as a management duo competing against Bradford City, but it will be good to be on the right side, now.

“When the stadium is full and the crowd is behind the team, it is a really difficult venue to come and play at, so we have to make it a tough place for everyone else to visit.

“Joining a club, you have to look at the short-term improvements you can make, but also look at the potential of what you can do. Here, for me, that scope is endless.

“I am really excited for the weekend. You will not see me sat down in the dugout too much, but we know what this venue is like for a game of football, and we are looking forward to getting our supporters behind this team and bringing them excitement.”

Alexander joins Bradford after a brief stint with MK Dons, which ultimately lasted just sixteen games.

During his time in Milton Keynes, he led the Dons to six wins, four draws, and six losses.

Previously, Alexander had managed Motherwell, Scunthorpe, Fleetwood, and perhaps most notably, Salford City.

His tenure with the club currently co-owned by Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers lasted 105 games.

Sacked in October 2020 and replaced by Scholes, Gary Neville later admitted that this move had been a mistake.

“Graham Alexander should have never left this club last season. I should have never made that decision that I made,” said Neville.

Alexander’s management career follows a 24-year playing career which saw him turn out for Scunthorpe United, Luton Town, and Burnley.

He spent the majority of his career playing for Preston North End and made 40 appearances for Scotland.
