Mundle, 20, was widely tipped to become Spurs’ next midfield superstar after coming up through their academy.

He penned his first pro deal in 2021 and even made several match-day squads.

Yet Mundle rejected a new contract last summer to pen a shock deal with Belgian side Standard Liege instead.

The ace went on to play six times for his new club this season.

But Fabrizio Romano claims Mundle is now heading back to England.

That’s because Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign him on a permanent transfer.

The Black Cats are enjoying an impressive Championship campaign and sit seventh in the table.

Fans are beginning to dream of another play-off finish.

And Mundle is seen as the man to help Sunderland make a push for Premier League promotion.

The Stadium of Light side has reportedly seen off interest from several other Championship teams for the ace.

It’s believed Stoke and Swansea were both keen on signing Mundle.

But he is instead set to link up with Jobe Bellingham and Co in the North East.

One man Mundle is unlikely to play alongside is Alex Pritchard.

He is keen to leave Sunderland and went on strike last week to force a move away.
