And Podolski is still playing at the age of 38 for Polish giants Gornik Zabrze.

But away from the pitch, he runs a host of businesses including an ice cream brand, a music festival and a football tournament.

Podolski’s biggest hit is his Mangal Doner kebab chain though, with 30 franchises springing up across Germany.

The star meal is the Podolski Sandwich, which comes with heaps of doner meat and salad for a £6.77 fee.

However, he was challenged by YouTuber Sascha Hellinger over the price, with the social media star claiming it was too expensive.

But this saw Podolski fiercely defend his grub while highlighting the price of other competitors.

And the striker took particular aim at McDonald’s, blasting the quality of their food while pointing out it’s also way dearer.

Podolski, reportedly worth a staggering £177.5million, said: “How much is a Margherita in your local pizza store? Almost £8.60 right?

“But it’s just dough, tomato sauce and some cheese. In my opinion, doner is still too cheap anyway. It should cost more.

“People keep referring to prices in the old days. When we were young, a doner probably cost £2.20. Now it’s £6.90, prices have increased everywhere.

“If you order a menu at McDonald’s, you pay as much as at my stores or even more.

“However, the food will be s**t, it lacks quality. It’s that attitude, Lukas Podolski should reduce the price of doner so everybody can afford one.”

Podolski scored 31 goals in 82 games for Arsenal, winning the FA Cup in 2014.

Before that, he enjoyed two spells at Cologne and also won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

Podolski then spent time at Inter Milan, Galatasaray, Vissel Kobe and Antalyaspor.

And he joined current club Gornik in 2021, going on to score three times in 16 games this season.

Podolski also won 130 caps for Germany, netting 49 goals in the process.

He helped his country win the World Cup in 2014 before retiring from international duty three years later.
