FORMER Dutch international Quincy Promes is reportedly facing a nine-year jail sentence for allegedly smuggling drugs.
That’s less than a year after he was found guilty of stabbing his own cousin.
Quincy Promes faces nine years in jail after being accused[/caption]Promes, 32, is accused of importing 1,361kg of cocaine – worth a whopping £65million – in 2020.
The drugs were reportedly intercepted in the Belgian port city of Antwerp while on their way to the Netherlands.
They were allegedly hidden in shipments of salt from Brazil.
And De Telegraaf claims the Dutch Public Prosecution Service has now recommended a nine-year prison sentence for Promes.
The winger currently lives in Russia and is still playing for top-flight side Spartak Moscow.
He has not attended any hearings in his homeland and denies the accusations through his lawyers.
If found guilty, Promes will avoid serving jail time if he doesn’t return to the Netherlands as they have no extradition treaty agreement with Russia.
The prosecutor at the Amsterdam District Court said Promes was unable to testify as to “how such a successful footballer allowed himself to be drawn so deeply into crime.”
They added: “He seems to think he is untouchable in Russia or abroad.”
Promes, who has reportedly applied for a Russian passport, has already been sentenced by a Dutch court for stabbing his cousin in 2020.
He was found guilty of aggravated assault last June and was given 18 months behind bars.
But as Promes remains in Russia, he is yet to serve any of that sentence.
He was also absent for the trial and has since appealed against the verdict.
Promes was once a top footballing name in Europe and made 50 appearances for the Dutch national side.
He also starred for clubs including Ajax and Sevilla, and is now in his second spell at Spartak Moscow.
Promes continues to be a key player for the Russian side and has scored 46 goals in 99 appearances.
